Workshops

Over the past few years I’ve been honored to facilitate workshops in partnership with the Institute for the Development of Human Arts for a large international NGO that is in the process of evolving the culture of mental health for their employees. Our training started with a vision of creating an alternative to the popular Mental Health First Aid workshop, which is rooted in dated paradigm that reduces mental health conditions to disorders of the brain, while ignoring the numerous other factors that impact our mental health such as trauma and poverty. Our training approach helps reimagine workplace wellbeing and thriving as part of an emerging movement for transformative mental health

What People Are Saying

“Skilled weaving together of theory and individual experience to deliver the overarching message: that mental health lies in the interaction and connection of people and their environment, not within individuals as isolated beings.”

“The training was really revelatory for me. I was expecting it to deal with workplace issues; I found it equally or more useful to my personal life. The term ‘trauma,’ which initially seems to overstate the gravity of what people suffer in daily life, ended up drawing my attention to the fact that our society normalizes, accepts and perpetuates a great deal of violence that leaves people feeling powerless, demoralized, and disconnected, leading to anger, exhaustion, lack of creativity, and many other negative effects. I strongly recommend that this course be held again so that others can benefit from it.”
“Transformative mental health practices are those that address an individual's physical and social context as a means to understanding their mental health: their housing, their family, their jobs, their diet, their community and sense of security and belonging. Without taking these factors into account, mental health cannot be properly understood or addressed/improved. An essential part of mental health is people are able to make meaning of their experience. Comparable wellbeing cannot be accomplished through medication of, or focus on, the individual in isolation.”

“The presentation is quite comprehensive, showcasing the different notions and concepts, and inviting us to react to them. I learned a lot. It is great to approach mental health in a comprehensive, inclusive and empathetic methodological way.”

“I think this training was one of the most useful and engaging pieces of training that I have attended during my time here. The dynamic of the group, as well as Sascha's very open, honest and informative facilitation really helped me to gain a better understanding of the different aspects & nuances of (transformative) mental health practices.”
“I think that this was such an incredibly valuable training, at such a challenging time in terms of mental wellbeing. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone & I would love for these sessions to continue, and I think that it might also be great for more sessions - maybe with an in-depth focus on a key topic for each session.”

“The sessions have definitely introduced me to several new notions and concepts, as well as how mental health is perceived and processed in different parts of the world.”
